Had come across this site recently, loved the profile description of its founder: "I stopped playing other sports after discovering lacrosse, never have regretted it..."
I can relate- baseball was my first love, soon after I was fawning over basketball during the Jordan era, then came lacrosse- it stopped me on my tracks like no other, it was game on from there on, for life.
Cranking up the sun & Lax!
Hey laxers, come play for free in Sofia as a pickup player, and enjoy some BBQ with the lax family in Bulgaria. We have players from all over the world competing in a relaxed 3-team tourney, you'll get to play for sure.
June 30-July 2
Well the stage for the drama is set! Ohio state v. Maryland for the finals. It's as if the "creator" is driving the script in this movie-like showdown. Back in April 29th in this wall post, we had a peek at a game between a powerhouse team vs an impressive upstart team - marveling how it was cool to see the no-frills / no tradition team transform into a bunch of sharks, and grind out a massive win. Those same upstarts did it to Towson yesterday in same fashion in the national semis. Yep, Ohio State. The victim in that game in April was - Maryland. This link has the full game, it's what Ive read movie-folks refer to "foreshadowing" as a device to give the audience a headsUp, a small clue for the climax to make it believable: youtu.be/NTnuTjQQHS4
Question is- how will this end? A Cinderella story for the up-starts and another loss for the Terps...which could be the closest thing to sheer cruelty in sports? (Coming up short at 2nd place for 11 times, for 42 years, including 4 of the last 6 finals) Or will Maryland rise to the occasion, as champions should do, before the credits start to roll?
A couple of things to note in this NCAA game which is highly entertaining especially from the 2nd half:
- in a team sport like lax, you can throw away who's no.1 or no. 2 seed in the nation, whichever team turns it on, its lights out. You can come against a team that's superior in quality in talent, coaches, tradition, so what? you can still compete - Every once in awhile, halfway through or in waning minutes of a game, the team morphs as a collective -becomes 1 organism with tentacles of ten men, just a beauty to watch when it happens - Win or lose, come away being part of a hard fought game like that gets you high naturally for weeks - Maryland's coach john Tillman, could this be his year finally to take one home? Finalist to the big dance 4 times, some was just so close...the man's earned it, he's more than paid his dues in my opinion - ...
